Along the Way to Bryce Canyon

Roswell – We drove from San Antonio to Roswell, NM the first day of this leg. This was a very long day, again. There was absolutely nothing of interest to report for this day. we stayed at Trailer Village RV Park. The park was ok, (photos HERE) the sites were level and full hookup. The political climate in this park was a bit uncomfortable from the office and management, including the merchandise in the store, to the other guests displaying political signs and flags.

Roswell is an interesting town with a UFO / Alien theme. This stems from a controversy over a supposed UFO crash site in a farmers field in 1947. apparently the government reported, then retracted, then revised the story of what happened here a few times. Whatever happened, it i an interesting little town with all sorts of UFO and alien references, museums, etc. See Photos HERE

Albuquerque – This was an easy drive for a nice change. When plannning out the route to Bryce Canyon there are not a lot of options between Albuquerque and Bryce. While planning we found Hidden Valley RV Park, an RPI campground, here so we decided to try it out. (Photos HERE) RPI is a part of our Thousand Trails membership and we stay for $10/night. Well that was an interesting park. It was up behind a gas station an a hill. Each site was terraced. Can’t really complain as it was a full hookup site for $10, so we were satisfied. The sites are gravel and not level so we had a bit of a chore getting set up. An interesting thing here is that the water connection was at the end of the parking area, requiring 3 hoses to connect.

After setting up we had a little time so we took the E-Bikes out for a ride on the Bosque Trail in Albuquerque. Well, that didn’t really go so well. With all the tools in the truck for the project in San Antonio, somehow one of the bike tires got sliced. Changing the tube on these bikes is challenging at best (long story,) so it was a bit of chaos getting started on that ride. The ride itself was nice and we saw some things in Albuquerque that were intriguing, perhaps another visit?

We liked what we saw in Albuquerque and would like to come back here for more exploration at some point. The Sandia Mountains would be fun to explore and hike as well as the tram.

Albuquerque to Bryce Canyon – While this was another long drive, it was interesting and made us very aware of the fact that we will need another trip to explore the Southwest more. When we were planning this trip we just looked at travel times and how to get from one place to another. We did not realize at the time that we would be driving through such interesting area, so it was a pleasant surprise to see what we saw, particularly through norther Arizona. Unfortunately we did not allow enough time to explore places we drove through such as Antelope Canyon, Page, AZ, Kanab, UT.
